Risk Management

I bought my phone one year ago. I had a screen protector as i treasured my new phone. It comes with protector for the phone camera as well.Since then, the pictures taken from the phone cam was terrible. It was not sharp and the colour did not come out well. I had to live with it (because of the phone company contract). Naturally i camplained alot about the cam.

Recently, the screen protector dropped off (i guess it has aged). Suddenly, the pictures taken from the cam came alive. I then realised that it was not the phone cam fault but that of the screen protector. Please do not laugh at me as i have learnt a valuable lesson (No, no that i should not put phone screen protector) but sometimes we cannot 'over' protect our children so much, so that they can shine.

We do not know how much they can develop until we are willing to let go. I don't mean letting go completely. Even free market economy needs some intervention at times right?

I know i know it may be a bit far fetch but it is what i have gathered. Just to share...

Listen first

Just some things i have learnt to share with you.

Some times, when a person says what seems to be hurtful words to you whether it is from children or adult, do not take it personally or be sensitive about it. They maybe trying to get your attention on some thing or issues which is important to them (or just your attention). Listen first before you rush to speak.

Rediscover the child in You

One of the fun things about being a parent is that you get to rediscover the child in you.

You can play together with your child the toys and games which you never have a chance to play. You can indulge in toys and games without fearing others labelling you. You have a chance to teach your child all the kampong games.

You can relive your childhood all over again.

Bless your child daily

Bless your child daily.

1. Hug your child. Let your child sense that love surrounds.

2. Give praise. Speak words of love like "You are the best", "You are special to me"

3. Speak words of affirmation
Simple example: If your child falls down, don't say "i told you!", ask "are you alright?" first.

4. Give thanks for your child is a miracle, say"You are so blessed!"

The best gift to your child is the gift of presence

Toys need not be feature-packed to be educational. A simple playing of the ball with your child can help to develop motor skills (throwing, kicking, catching) as well as cognitive skills (deciding who to throw to, rolling in the right direction).

The best gift to your child is the gift of presence.

Treasure every moment

I remember around this time last year, one of my young close relative passed away due to a motorcycle accident. Life is so fragile...treasure every moment. Because it is the happy things you remember about the person that endures through time.

Parental Guidance - responsibility as a parent

There was a recent article on the newspaper about a parent worried about one movie ' espousing wrong values' as it had classic fairy tale characters behaving not so 'classicly' (no such word but used to illustrate a point). I nearly fell off my chair laughing when i read that newspaper report, I thought that movie is suppose to make people laugh (hence all the jokes about fairy tale characters) but i think everyone is entitled his or her own opinion.

Anther article on a parent worried about fast food chains promoting 'violent' (i think action-packed should be a nicer word) cartoon character merchanise (toys). lol (abbr. for laughing out loud)

Anyway you can't control the media. Just exercise your Parental Guidance (PG) over your child.
It is the responsibility as a parent.

Teens not getting enough sleep

There was a news article recently on Teens not getting enough sleep.

Already they are overwhelmed with tuition, homework, late night TVs, PC games, handheld portable games, internet chat and in recents years, what makes it worse is the emergence of MMORPG. For those uninitiated, MMORPG is Massively muliplayer online roleplaying game.

A survey conducted recently on young people in Singapore shows 80 percent are getting less than 8 hours of sleep on school days.

Once teens are not having enough sleep, research shows that they get tense, angry, quick tempered, unable to focus on study, short memory span etc.

It can affect health, performance and safety.

So SLEEP is one important factor to bring out the genius in your child!
Help them to get enough sleep and form good sleeping habits.
